It isn't often I get the chance to do something outside the halls of the academy, but The A21 Campaign is worth supporting with whatever spare time I have to give. They're an anti-human trafficking, advocacy organization; they raise awareness in schools, churches, conferences, and so forth. They also provide rehabilitation services overseas for women (overwhelmingly) who have been rescued from sexual slavery.
If you're a secondary classroom teacher, they've made it easy for you to raise awareness about the historical and modern atrocities of human trafficking. I've lent a helping hand by aligning their curriculum from Common Core standards into Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards. Texas teachers, the curriculum should be available for high school English, history, and health classes in September.
